Today the Chicago Transit Board voted to once again offer CTA customers rides for one penny on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day morning. For millennium revelers, the Penny Ride program on CTA trains and buses can provide transportation that is less expensive than usual to and from the many events scheduled throughout the Chicagoland area.
CTA Chairman Valerie B. Jarrett said, "The Penny Ride program encourages customers to make the CTA their 'designated driver' on this busy holiday. By leaving their cars at home, Penny Ride customers make their evening safer and more enjoyable."
The CTA also plans additional service for the New Year's Eve weekend holiday to serve the Chicago's International Millennium Dinner, Dance 'til the Dawn of the New Millennium, and the host of other millennium events planned throughout the Chicagoland area. Specific service details will be available next month.
CTA President Frank Kruesi said, "In addition to our many regular customers, Chicago's Millennium Celebration could bring many visitors and new CTA riders to the Chicagoland area. We look forward to providing safe, clean, and friendly bus and rail service to and from the multiple fireworks displays, 'Milly' lessons, and cultural events that the city has planned."
